Newlands cricket stadium is celebrating its 120th anniversary this season.
The Western Province Cricket Association has a packed programme for the birthday celebrations. Any funds raised will contribute to upgrading the stadium, acquiring a new scoreboard, regressing the pitch and upgrading the outfield. The first official event is the Newlands 120 Youth Day on Friday October 26.
The event will be a mini-cricket day with 1200 to 1500 children taking part. These children will come from schools throughout the Peninsula – including children from special needs schools. The children will attend a coaching clinic hosted by JAG Sports Foundation Academy and Cape Cobras players.
