Top long distance runner Tegla Loroupe has called for SA to use the 2010 World Cup to promote sports development throughout the continent. “This is your chance to make a real change to many, many lives,” she said.
Loroupe was speaking at the launch of the JAG Sports and Education Foundation in Cape Town last night. The Foundation which is headed by Olympic medalist Elana Meyer, engages with selected youth sports and education campaigns to implement programmes which encourage children to participate in sport. “We will become involved in all types of sport, such a street soccer, cricket and rugby,” Meyer said.
